In March, several grocers will begin having free 90 minute walking store tours on diabetes that will be led by a Registered Pharmacist and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. These tours, appropriately named, “Eating Healthy with Diabetes” will provide a wealth of information to participants with diabetes or prediabetes.
Living with diabetes can be confusing and frustrating at times. Knowing how to handle the many avenues of food intake can help to decrease this frustration. These tours have been designed to provide hands on learning to the participant in a relaxing manner to deliver information on medications, glucose monitoring tips and different foods. The tours will cover each section of the store pointing out food selections to help with blood glucose control.
You will be able to learn the effects of different foods on blood glucose levels and will be able to ask specific food questions. Label reading will be demonstrated as well as the basics of how to count carbohydrates and plan meals. Tips on keeping your blood glucose in the normal range will also be covered.
After a well spent 90 minutes on the tour, the participant will have a better understanding of which foods to choose, along with what foods cause the blood glucose to increase and the basic guidelines to help control blood glucose levels. You will enjoy the information that can help you know how to handle your food and be in better control of your blood glucose levels. You will leave pleasantly surprised with all of the information you will learn on the tour.
